Read on,There are those people who love collecting various different wooden models. But you need to know how to take good care of these otherwise they do not last long. Here are a few essential tips for doing so.

Know the basic hacks - Say you have wooden model airplanes at home, ensure you keep them far away from the sun because this will cause the wood to appear very dull in a few days only. Keep it in a cool place where there is no direct contact with sunlight. There will be sunlight resistant pieces too in the market but even these eventually do fade away. Plus, you should keep them dry. Avoid association with water as much as you can. The finish will begin to peel off if it comes in contact with water frequently. Or then ensure to wipe out the water instantly.

If it is the mahogany submarine product that you own, you will have to make very sure that these do not have any scratches. You must handle these with utmost care and keep far away from children. If you have little ones in the house who would think this to be a toy and start playing with it, there is likely a high chance of it getting spoiled and obtaining scratches. Not only kids but these should be kept far away from your pets too. You never know how they would misuse the product. Place it in a safe way which is out of reach of the children and pets. You also need to ensure that the place of storage is comfortable so that when you want to access it for any purpose, say for polishing, it does not touch the edges of the cabinet. Otherwise this too will cause searches on the piece. Just ensure that scratches don't occur on the model.

The humidity also matters.
The extreme of humidity affects the model. This is why you should place the model in the correct place. You may want to place is in your living room as the centre piece. This is a great area because it is not very close to either the window or the AC. Also, you should keep them in a place where dust does not get easily accumulated. You sure don't want to see your wooden model helicopters enveloped in dust. This will also make cleaning somewhat tedious for you.
In case the dust does settle on it, remove it using a soft toothbrush. If the dirt gets collected in certain places, which are inaccessible with only the brush, you can make use of a mild soap mixed in water.

Wipe it off with a soft cloth.
With these simple tips in mind, you can surely expect your wooden pieces to last a good number of years.
