·      Out of the box models – These models come in a kit and you need to attach all the components together to assemble it. There are manuals present that provide step by step instructions to create the model. In earlier times, the number of pieces that used to come in the kit was very less. But today there are hundreds of pieces that are built in plastic, aluminum or brass are provided in the kit.

·      Built from scratch models – This category of models does not come in kits. The modelers have to create their own models from their own plastic and other components. However, they can use their own imagination and creativity to fabricate it. They require a lot of time in building therefore people do not usually buy such models.
