Care tips for wooden models

We all have certain obsessions, and we all are hoarders for something. If you are someone, who loves collecting military models or aircraft models made out of wood, then you are at the right place. We have some amazing care tips that you need to know if you want your wooden models to stay shining and polished throughout the years.

1. Clean it well – If you have kept any of your wooden model rockets on the cabinets, make sure you clean them every day with a soft brush or a soft cloth. Don’t use harmful chemicals on it or don’t use too much water either. You can use a lightly dampen cloth to take off any dust from the wooden model. Make sure you don’t wash the piece under running water as wood can be damaged by excessive water.

2. Keep it away from the window – If you have precious wooden model airplanes, make sure you don’t keep it near the window or in such a place where it can catch dust quickly. Keeping it inside glass cabinets is completely fine else you can place it away from the window or kids. You don’t want this precious wooden piece to break, right?

3. Polish – If you take good care of wooden artifacts, you don’t need to polish them often, but if you are not careful, you might need to use polish. You can buy wood polish from the stores outside, but you can use mineral oil and vinegar too for wooden pieces. This will add shine to the piece and also remove any dust from it. Make sure you avoid silicone polishes as they can stain things around the house quickly.

4. Use homemade cleaners – If your wooden model doesn’t need excessive polish, you can use strong homemade cleaners to make it shine. You can either use the mineral oil and vinegar combination else you can use mineral oil with lemon extract. Just take a quart of mineral oil and mix it with a large spoon of lemon extract. You can simply use a soft brush to rub this all over your wooden model to polish it.

5. Don’t put it in the sun – Whether you are spring cleaning or trying to make that polish dry, don’t leave your wooden precious models in the sunlight. The harsh rays can make the appearance of the wood dull in just some time. So avoid making this error when you are drying the polish. You can leave it indoors to dry, it might take a little while but it will look better in the end.

6. Go to a professional – If you have little idea on how to polish the model, go to a professional for help rather than doing it on your own.
These 6 easy care tips will make your wooden models shine through years.
